Light as a feather donut


3/4 c. milk

1/4 c. sugar

1t. salt

1/4 c. margarine

1/4 c. warm water

1 pkg. yeast

1 egg, beaten

3 1/4 c. flour



Scald milk; stir in sugar, salt and margarine. Cool mixture to lukewarm. Mix together the yeast and water; add to milk mixture. Stir in beaten egg and 1/2 of the flour to make a soft dough. Knead in rest of flour until dough is smooth and elastic. Let rise until double in size. Roll out on a floured surface to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut desired size, with center cut out; let rise. Deep fat fry in hot oil. Immediately immerse in donut glaze. Yield; 3 doz. donuts.
